Abstract
A study published in Lancet Oncology shows that there is a variation in the speed of referral to hospital, of patients with suspected cancer depending on their ethnicity, age and gender. The research found that patients from an ethnic minority or who are young or female have to wait longer to be diagnosed and referred to a cancer specialist. Also, patients with possible symptoms of lung or pancreatic cancer, were referred less quickly than patients with symptoms of breast and testicular cancer or melanoma.
