Abstract
The Government has published a new National Planning Policy Framework, which aims to simplify the planning system and introduce a presumption of sustainable development, taking account of the needs of the local economy, people and places and based on local plans. The Framework includes provisions on promoting health (in section 8) and infrastructure, as well as protecting the environment and takes account of some criticisms of the draft framework published in 2011. There is additional guidance on traveller sites and on flood risk and minerals extraction.
