1) Please find attached below a copy of a guidance document developed for the NHS East Midlands. The idea was to produce a tangible resource for organisations operating in the new context and within new reconfigurations to clearly outline strategic policy & organisational requirements in relation to engaging local people and patients.
Complementing a detailed framework outlining these requirements is an evidence base of examples which illustrates how the requirements have been progressed in practice to demonstrate the existing wealth of experience, skills and knowledge that remains as the East Midlands PPI legacy.

2) In addition we have come across some excellent leaflets that were produced by South Devon Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. See below. The leaflets were produced as part of a wider project looking at the learning and development needs of NHS staff with specific reference to PPI. With the permission of the trust I have attached the leaflets - the one entitled 'Staff Guide' looks at what are the benefits of involving patients/clients and carers in our services and the other entitled 'User Guide' is written by service users and this looks at how and why people might want to get involved. I have also attached the full 60 page report "Building capacity and capablity to involve" - generated from the wider project.
If you have any queries on the leaflets or report please direct these to

3) Trust Me I’m a Patient - a role play game about Patient and Public Involvement. We have used this game at one of our events. Participants have ranged from front line staff to Chief Executives and Board Members. It is essentially about winning hearts and minds for greater patient involvement in change. Take a look at the DH website for information on the game to see whether it would work for you. (Click on the title above for link)
