The aim of the Neuro Surgery workstream has been to improve access to Neurosurgical services for patients across the East Midlands.
The main thrust of this has been expanding capacity in line with the 6 year investment plan. Progress has been maintained through year 2 of the plan with the provision of the 3rd Neurosurgical theatre, additional inpatient beds and staff as well as key consultant appointments of Neurosurgeon, intensivist, Anaesthetist and Neuro radiologist.
Discussions with our commissioners on year 3 of this investment are in progress to prioritise investment in Pathology, a further Neurosurgical consultant and increased provision of additional critical care high dependency beds and provision of nurse practitioners.
There is ongoing collection and publication of performance data to ensure continued progress in improving access for our patients.
