The Nottinghamshire  Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Service

The team are based at Nottingham University Hospitals, (City Campus), although group work is carried out in the community.

The Nottingham CFS/ME team is funded to see patients from all three Nottinghamshire Primary Care Trusts.  The  team accepts referrals from primary or secondary care for adult patients with a confirmed diagnosis of CFS/ME.  The team see adult patients who are able to attend regular outpatient clinics at the City Campus or a community venue.  At present we are not offering a domicillary service. The team has a close working relationship with the Paediatric CFS team and joint consultations are carried out for patients transferring from paediatric to adult services.

The service is delivered by a multi-disciplinary team which includes:

Service Co-ordinator/Occupational Therapist (FT)

Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine (PT)

Senior Physiotherapist (PT)

Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (PT)

Team Secretary (PT)

The team provides both individual and group interventions for those patients diagnosed with CFS/ME.

The service adopts a biopsychosocial model of care for treating CFS patients by empowering them to learn physical, psychological and practical self-management techniques to improve their function and quality of life.  The topics covered include: -

  • What is CFS/ME?
  • How to manage daily activities

  • Thoughts and feelings
  • Exercise
  • Sleep management
  • Stress management and relaxation
  • Diet
  • Coping with pain
