The Lincolnshire Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Service

 

The Lincolnshire Service is funded to see patients from Lincolnshire Primary Care Trust.    The team consists of a Lead Psychologist (Part-time), Lead Occupational Therapist (Full-Time),   Assistant Psychologist (Full-time), Rehabilitation Assistant (Part-time) and Team Secretary (Part-time).  The secretarial hours are Monday 8am to 2pm and Tuesday - Thursday 8am to 12.30pm.  An answering machine is available outside of these hours.

 

The team has a base in Grantham Hospital although the service is centred around community support, with individuals being seen at or close to their own homes, in health centres, schools etc. throughout Lincolnshire.

 

The team see’s adults, older adults and children/young people with CFS, from the mildly affected to patients severely affected.

The Lincolnshire CFS Service provides a dedicated, specialised service for individuals with CFS.  It aims to provide high quality, research based treatment and management techniques to individuals with CFS, education and support to carers and training for professionals involved in the diagnosis and care of individuals with the condition.  There is continuous monitoring of the service, clinical outcomes and service needs to achieve optimal service effectiveness and to enable service development needs to be addressed.

The Service delivers a community based, comprehensive management and support service focused on the expressed needs of individuals with CFS/ME and their families/carers.  The service aims to meet individual needs and encompasses all levels of disability across the age span working in partnership with other services and expert patients.

The Team offers:

 

·        Education, individualised or group-work treatment packages, and support to individuals with CFS who are either:-

In the relatively early stages of the illness but require guidance regarding symptom management.

 

~

Suffering relapse, or

 

~

Struggling to take control of their illness.

 

 

·        Support and advice for families/carers of individuals with CFS/ME.

 

 

·        Support and guidance for professionals caring for CFS/ME patients.

 

 

·        A teaching and training programme for professionals, including GPs and community and hospital based staff who are involved in the diagnosis and treatment of individuals with CFS/ME.

 

The team have recently produced a Self Help Book which can be accessed by clicking onto the attachment below.

 

The team provides a telephone help line which is available weekly on a Wednesday afternoon. The help line is accessible between 2.00pm - 4.00pm and is available to patients, carers family members and professionals wanting advice/information about the service.

 

 

Referral Criteria

 

All children, adults and older adults with a CONFIRMED DIAGNOSIS of CFS/ME from a medical practitioner are accepted for assessment. Referrals are accepted from medical and other health professionals, with self-referrals also being accepted, as long as diagnosis can be confirmed.
