The Derbyshire Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Service

 

The Chronic Fatigue Syndrome team offers a multi professional service to people who have a primary problem of chronic and debilitating fatigue for which there is no identifiable pathology or alternative diagnosis.  Patients must already have been screened for differential diagnosis and fulfil the criteria for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS).

The team includes:

Service Co-ordinator/Occupational Therapist (FT)

  • 2x Consultants in Rehabilitation Medicine

  • 2x Physiotherapists (PT)

  • 1x Occupational therapist (PT)

  • 1x Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist (PT)  

  • Team secretary (PT)

The team works closely with other health and social care departments and voluntary organisations providing services to people with CFS.

The team accepts referrals from primary or secondary care from Derby City or Derby County PCT.   Referrals can only be accepted from GPs and Consultants.

The team provides:

  • Specialist assessment

  • Therapy interventions

  • Self management advice

  • Group therapy

Sessions may include information about:

  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ME

  • Grading activity and pacing

  • Goal setting

  • Stress management and relaxation

  • Sleep and rest

  • Concentration and memory

  • Thoughts and feelings

  • Lifestyle management e.g. diet, energy conservation

The team also provides advice, education and support to health professionals, statutory and non-statutory organisations, service users and carers on CFS.
