Children Matter 2

children matter 2

Welcome to the children's and young people's link.  It aims to provide a learning environment where best practice can be shared, where new ideas about service delivery can be put forward, where challenges can be debated and updates on national policy guidance and legislation can be given.

The government is committed to delivering an ambitious programme of investment and reform.

We are being encouraged to provide services based on an assessment of need of individuals and populations and the skills required to meet these needs.

Children, young people and their families should be at the starting point of everything we do.

The new Children's Bill (due for publication) will expect all agencies planning, commissioning and delivering services to children and young people to work towards five outcomes:

  • Protection from harm and neglect

  • Good physical and mental health

  • Education and training

  • Positive contribution to society

  • Social and economic well being

The Trent Strategic Health Authority will keep the link updated and encourage you all to use it.

Following the publication of the Laming Report and the consultation green paper 'Every Child Matters', the Children's Bill was presented to the House of Lords on 4th March 2004.

We have now included some new documents, related to the theme of

'What to do if you are worried a child is being abused'.

The documents begin with the Chief Nursing Offier's Review which was published this year. (Please see Related Documents).

KITE was officially launched on 15 September 2004.  Please see the press release (in Related Documents) for the details of this exciting new service.  The KITE Team are currently funded by the Big Lottery Fund (formally New Opportunites Fund).

 ANOTHER LAUNCH!

PATCH was launched officially on 7 May 2005 by Her Grace, the Duchess of Rutland.

I know - another acronym to learn!   It stands for Partnership for the Child at HomePATCH is a new service service which will provide home based support and respite care throughout Lincolnshire to any child or young person with complex health needs, who may have a life threatening or life limiting condition.  It is, just like KITE, supported by funds from the Big Lottery Fund.

The PATCH team is a highly specialised service consisting of a Lead Nurse, Team Co-ordinator, Health Care Support Workers, Play Specialist, Bereavement Co-ordinator and Administrative Support Staff.  It is the aim of the team to provide a child-centred and flexible service to the child and family and allow the family a choice regarding the support and care they wish to receive with the time allocated to them.

Anyone wishing to know more about the service should contact Sarah Beresford, Lead Nurse at the Kingfisher Children's Unit, Grantham & District Hospital - 01476 565232 ext 4457.
