An Innovation workshop presented by the NHS Instituite for Innovation and Improvement
Truly understanding the challenges the NHS faces will help us develop the best solution. Thinking Differently and the ebd approach are key resources available from the NHS Institute which will help individuals and teams to really understand the challenge behind their change projects. Thinking differently gave birth to the NHS nearly 60 years ago. In every era since, those who have cared passionately for the ideals of the NHS have seen the need to think differently to meet the challenges of an ever-changing environment. Today is no different.
Recent reforms have given us different structures and different points of focus.
If we—the staff, clinicians, managers and leaders within the NHS—continue to think as we have always thought, we are likely to get the same results we have had before, regardless of the new structures and priorities that surround us.
The objectives of the workshop:
In this one day interactive workshop participants gained an overview of how they can use tools and resources from the NHS Institute which support an Innovation Process back in their own organisations, in both individual and team efforts.
Specific lessons for participants were:
-
understand the process for thinking differently from Concepts to Implementation
-
be exposed to methods of observation to identify challenges and provide insights
-
use some of the principles of understanding patient experience and co-design as an effective method for improvement
-
practice several of the tools
-
be aware of a variety of health care success stories where the tools and techniques illustrated have been used
-
leave the session with resources that can be used to support them in their workplace.
