New product and technology adoption will be key to ensuring that we make significant quality and productivity gains in our innovation journey - this workshop will talk us through the challenges, benefits and lessons learned from trialling new product technology in an acute hospital setting as part of the National Technology Adoption Centre’s product review action calls.
Speaker: Dr Stuart Gold, Consultant Anaesthetist, Derby Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Keith Dibble, Associate Director, Surgical Services, Derby Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
The main bullet points that came out of the workshop on the day are:-
-
Managers and clinicians need to work in partnership to introduce innovative technology
-
Seniors managers must make themselves available to do this; to help reduce organisational inertia, and they carry responsibility for a wide enough area and budget to be able to authorise project.
-
Innovation must be recognised and rewarded. In current NHS economic model this could be done through the tariff.
-
Managerial support much more likely if; it is clearly explained, has specific objectives, has clear timescales and monitoring with a transparent financial package.
