DH EXPO 2011: What the East Midlands Showcased

At the 2nd DH Innovation Expo which took place on 9th and 10th March 2011 at London Excel, over 50 frontline staff and clinicans showcased quality, innovative, productivity and prevention projects from the East Midlands across the eight QIPP workstream areas.

  • Millions could be saved locally and up to £1.3 billion nationally by same day telephone assessment of urgent care calls from patients, leading to speedier management says Leicestershire GP Dr Steve Clay. Older Patients in particular, are more likely to be admitted by hospitals if they deteriorate and go to an Accident and Emergency Department. Click here to read more about this innovative work called Doctor First. 

 

  •  £9-£20 million could be saved in the East Midlands each year by improving quality and streamlining processes via the clinical project leads of the 40 Regional Innovation Fund projects in the East Midlands. 25 project lead clinicals and managers presented their projects at the East Midlands 'Meet the Regional Innovation Fund Innovators' Learning Cafe.   • Nine innovators took delegates on a telehealth journey across the East Midlands. Click here to read more about each project.

 

  • Two clinical leaders of Regional Innovation Fund Projects presented their work in the RIF Zone. Delegates had the chance to hear from Anna Murphy, Consultant Respiratory Pharmacist and Mrs Nina Lakhani, Community Pharmacist on the community pharmacy solution for asthma and hear how Dr Jay Banerjee, Acute Emergency Care Physician and Sandra Campbell developed and implemented a new primary and secondary care falls management proforma.
