Paediatric Therapists from Children’s Health Services (CHS)
in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland in partnership with
Ethitec, have developed a paperless system for recording
appointments, clinical assessments, interventions and
outcomes.
Ethitec’s Tiara9 system had been deployed elsewhere across
the country for a number of years, but had predominantly
been used to record patient contacts or to collect activity
data. CHS innovatively took the process a stage further
and other therapy disciplines have subsequently embraced
and further developed the system. The system can be used
both on and offline.
Authorised therapists are now able to download and
upload patient records to and from their laptops at an
assigned NHS location, making it easier and quicker to
record patient information and clinical interventions.
Careful consideration was given to balancing good
accessibility to the system and ensuring that the significant
security issues were addressed.
The implementation of the electronic patient record has
been supported by ongoing staff feedback and evaluation
to continually assess and upgrade the quality of the clinical
records.
One of the greatest achievements of the project was to
facilitate a change of culture and vision to bring about a
totally new way of working. The Children’s Therapy Team
has risen to the immense challenge that this new way of
working entailed bringing with it the potential to facilitate
even closer multidisciplinary links and improved clinical
record keeping.
