Rush 4 Health is a programme of the Rushcliffe Community
Partnership. The 12 organisations of the partnership are
committed to working to achieve health improvement in
Rushcliffe. The 12 partners are: the PCT; Rushcliffe
Borough Council; Nottinghamshire County Council;
Rushcliffe Business Partnership; REACT21; Nottinghamshire
Wildlife Trust; Rushcliffe Council for Voluntary Service;
South Nottinghamshire College; Nottinghamshire Police;
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service; Nottinghamshire
Rural Community Council and Spirita (social housing).
The focus of the programme has been developed by the
health issue group of the partnership and currently focuses
on tackling tobacco control and obesity. The team wanted
to ensure that by working together they maximised their
ability to address health outcomes. By identifying the areas
of need, and working with the local population to devise
specific projects they are able to effectively tackle health
needs. Their success is reflected in their feedback.
“Mission Possible was fantastic, creating unbelievable
creative writing opportunities for us as well as being
unbelievably informative. Kids loved it!!!”
“Adopt a chef scheme has taught pupils about food
hygiene and preparation given fresh impetus to healthy
living and helped pupils to learn how businesses work.”
Data from the Rushcliffe Borough Council indicates that
1628 people have been given help on stopping smoking
and 855 people have received advice on healthy eating.
The difference to the community is that health is
embedded in a range of community activities whether it is
raising an issue about school packed lunches on a Parish
Council blog, or thinking about health eating caterers for
an outdoor community event. People are stopping and
thinking about how actions can impact on the health of
our community.
